Allison's Book Bag

One Week Hiatus

Posted on: May 28, 2012

My last teaching day for another year ended on Friday. Andy and I spent our evening with in-laws. Andy made his superb chicken salad sandwiches. We played a game of Oh Heck and even tried Crokinole. If you haven’t heard of the latter, it’s a Canadian game with elements of curling and shuffleboard. I grew up playing Crokinole, but my in-laws are still figuring it out. To end the night, we all treated ourselves to peanut butter ice-cream. Seemed as if the weekend was off to a lovely start.

Until I spent half the night running to the bathroom. You see, somewhere during the week, I had apparently picked up the stomach flu. And so, I spent the rest of the weekend pretty much hating everything. Foods made me sick. Reading would have been a nightmare. Watching television felt like a chore. All I wanted to do was sleep. Except even that tiny wish was frequently interrupted by my need to go to the bathroom. Basically, everything felt unpleasant.

Almost three days later, my fever is gone. I know what sleep is again. I’ve also managed to eat a bowl of cooked oatmeal, a favorite dish from childhood. Yet is still feels like a lot of energy to write this teaser.

So, I’m taking a few days hiatus from Allison’s Book Bag. There won’t be any teasers this week. But, I intend to usher in the new month with a review. Save the date: June 2!
