Wishlist Wednesday

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop from Pen to Paper that invites ones to post about one book per week that has been on their wishlist for some time, or just added, and that you can’t wait to get off the wishlist and onto your wonderful shelves.

My mother-in-law belongs to a local book club and so sometimes we talk about books. Recently, she mentioned a book to me by an author right here in the Midwest whom she also happens to knows. This information sounded intriguing enough that, despite the fact that romances are not my normal reading fare, I expressed an interest in reading Walks the Fire by Stephanie Grace Whitson.

Now what can I tell you about this recommended novel? Well, it’s the first in a series entitled Prairie Winds. Amazon describes it as: “An Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) best seller, Walks the Fire chronicles the extraordinary life of Jesse King, reluctant pioneer and avid quiltmaker, who loves, hurts, and triumphs in her faith even as she moves from covered wagon to tepee, from tepee to overland trail fort, and from there to a fledgling state capitol.” Moreover, the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA)confirmed that it is a: “A well written pioneer love story … fascinating, well-researched details of the culture and practices of the Plains Indians.”

Here is an excerpt from the Prologue: “Lisbeth stared in disbelief at the patchwork quilt that spilled out of her mother’s lap onto the floor. She studied the hands that held it, noticing for the first time how time had worn them….” The author, Stephanie Whitson, is an avid quilter and some of her work has been marketed nationwide. As for the story of fictional character Jessie King, it was “inspired by the lives of pioneers laid to rest in an abandoned cemetery adjacent to the Whitson property”.

As with last’s week feature, it’s in my pile of books to take with me when my husband and I take our annual summer road trip. Next week I’ll be back with more of my vacation picks!

What’s on your wish list?

Steph has written 30+ books and they are all superb. “Walks the Fire” (her first) will always be my favorite.

That’s a strong recommendation for the series. I’m looking even more forward to reading Walks the Fire. 🙂

This one sounds really interesting. i hope you get it soon!

My WW:

For awhile, I stopped accepting loaned books, because it would take them too long to return. Hopefully, I can avoid that mistake with this loan. 🙂
