Freedom

on:Although I now live in the United States, I’m originally from Canada. For that reason, it’s been a pleasure these past two years for me to write a guest post for my dad’s blog in honor of Canada Day, which happens on July 1.
For this year’s guest post, I expanded upon an article on freedom which I had written back in 1992 in honor of Canada’s 125th birthday. My article addresses how I value freedom but also how my understanding of that concept has changed over the years. I apparently had a lot to write, because the article ended up being about 300o words, which is how come my dad published it in three parts. Here are the links:
In case you missed it, for last year’s post, I updated an article which I had written about my grandmothers, neither of whom was originally from Canada. Through my conversations with them, their pride in their new country rings strong, but I also felt struck by how relevant the differences in their viewpoints about whether to hold onto or let go of their heritage are to us today. Thanks again, Allison, for writing a Canada Day article for my blog. Also thanks for providing links to it at Allison’s Book Bag.
