Six-Word Saturday #72

Welcoming the new year with goals!

Looking back over 2015, I can point to some accomplishments. For example, a program called FitDay helped me track my caloric intake and ultimately to get to my desired weight. Two of my special education students returned to their regular classroom for all their instruction. Allison’s Book Bag reached 5000 hits. I increased my posts at Lincoln Animal Ambassadors to once a month to once a week.

Looking ahead to 2016, I have some resolutions. The first two will be the hardest to achieve, because I tend to always have three-thousand things I’d like to do. These resolutions are:

  • Spend more time with pets!
  • Take more time to relax!

Because these resolutions will be difficult to reach, I’ve set goals to help me.

I already spend time with our pets in the mornings by grooming and training them, but I want to do better than this! The problem is when I get to the evening, my mind is too tired to brainstorm ways to play with them. To remedy this, I’m going to spend a little time every weekend looking for ways to interact with them. This will get me excited about setting aside time in the evenings for them too.

This past year, I managed to stop allowing myself to have evening job commitments. Unfortunately, I switched to filling up my time with household tasks. To remedy this, I’m going to set aside an hour every night that is mine to do anything BUT work. On a similar note, I’ve tried to limit how often during the day I go online, but I think I can improve. This year, to not even use the internet on Sundays, and thereby focus on life around me.

I have a couple other resolutions. Those are:

  • speak up more for animals and other values
  • experiment more with my writing

Those I’ve already been working towards. I post often about animal needs, and have written a couple of stories outside of genres with which I am comfortable. As for how to ensure I reach those resolutions, I’m thinking about it….

What about you? What resolutions or goals did you set this year?

PS An interesting article to read about the difference between resolutions and goals is: Why New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work

That’s the important thing about resolutions – having specific plans and goals in order to accomplish them. It sounds like you’re on the right track to succeeding. Happy 2016 and thanks for playing 6WS!

Thank you for hosting 6WS! Happy 2016.

Best wishes in accomplishing your resolutions and reaching your goals, Allison. As you know from my personal letters to you, one goal that I’ve set for myself is to clear up some undone or partly done things. I also aim to be more effective in my family, church, and Facebook activities and to strengthen my relationships with family, friends, and members of Leonora’s and my Life group.

Clearing up some undone or partly done things is an unwritten goal every time I have a holiday. Andy and I weeded through photos from all last year over break. Momentous accomplishment!

All the best in clearing up your stuff. Remember to celebrate each little pile you take care of. They’re all steps!

Thanks for the good advice.

You can do it! 🙂

I also have to remind myself though that goals aren’t always accomplished on the first attempt. Reaching goals is a process. This weekend didn’t work out, but the next one just might!

Those sound like good goals. I need to be more ambitious if I am going to make goals. 😉

Participating in Joyful January sounds like a goal to me. 🙂 And a very good one to boot!

I love your idea about doing for yourself. We are far more productive if we take time to care for ourselves each day. Excellent.

Have a fabulous day and scritches to your babies. 🙂

The nice thing about goals is we can fail at them but still have a chance to try again. This weekend was not the relaxing one I had hoped for but, hey, there’s always the next one. Right? 😉

Best wishes for a Happy New Year

much love…

Happy New Year to you too!
