Critter Photo #6

Posted on: January 18, 2016

AwwwMondays-Puppy-AvatarWith our household of critters having expanded to include three cats and a dog, I thought it fitting to join a meme related to pets. After searching around, I came across Awww….. Mondays. The one rule is: “Post a picture that makes you say Awww…. and that’s it.” Every photo seemed to feature a pet and so the meme is a perfect fit!

What happened you might wonder to the dog, after the Cat Trio became a family? Maybe for him, it was a good thing that the cats all came into our household at different times. This meant he just had to adjust to one cat at a time.

He actually seems to like the first cat. Sometimes she’ll bound up to him and then run away, egging him to chase her. Other times, he’ll bark and run past her, with the expectation that she’ll follow. It’s actually funny how well the two get along, given that she’s a tortie or an “attitude cat”.

The second cat caused the most concern. She didn’t like him checking her out. Frankly, even the two of them being in the same space seemed to stress her. Then there was the fact that they quarreled over food. For a time, the two of them would draw closer and closer whenever my husband and I ate, both coaxing for a taste. When the handouts happened, she’d act as if queen. That didn’t go over well with the dog, but he also didn’t protest. He’s an extremely tolerant poodle. Maybe his placid nature eventually won the second cat over. Maybe the stern lectures from us made her reconsider her place in the hierarchy. Or maybe she just learned the routines and knew that food would come if she patiently waited. At any rate, they haven’t quarreled since the summer.

Then there’s the third cat. Our poor dog! He’s never particularly cared for even energetic dogs, let alone a rambunctious cat. For a time, he let himself get beaten up. Oh, the third cat never really ever hurt him. She simply spent lots of time jumping him, goosing him, and otherwise being a pest. These days, he’s taken to giving a little bark when upset, as well as protecting his space and food. Despite how annoying the third cat is, at the end of the day, they often fall asleep next to one another. They’re working it out.

That’s how the Cat Trio and the Solitary Dog became family.Want to start your week off with a smile? Visit Comedy Plus or Burnt Food Dude and see what others are sharing today.

Summer Reviews

Books can take connect us with strangers, take us to unique places, and introduce us to new ideas. They can also offer hope in a chaotic world. And so I must share what I read!

Each week, I’ll introduce you to religious books, Advanced Reader Copies, animal books, or diversity books. Some I’ll review as singles and others as part of round-ups. Just ahead, there will be reviews of:
