Critter Photo #10

Posted on: April 4, 2016

AwwwMondays-Puppy-AvatarWith our household of critters having expanded to include three cats and a dog, I thought it fitting to join a meme related to pets. After searching around, I came across Awww….. Mondays. The one rule is: “Post a picture that makes you say Awww…. and that’s it.” Every photo seemed to feature a pet and so the meme is a perfect fit.

Time to check in with the solo dog! For a long time, meal times caused the most tension with our pets. Or for that matter, any occasion that involved food.

One hot day last summer, my husband and I were treating ourselves to ice-cream. Our cat, Cinder, positioned herself on the tower and there she patiently waited. The other pets didn’t act so polite. Still, even they seemed to know their proper places. Barnaby sat on Andy’s lap, Bootsie snuggled up against my side, and Rainy…. Okay, she was the exception. She just wandered back and forth between us, waiting for handouts from whomever would be the first to give them. Half the time, this meant she ended up being pushed to the floor for her rudeness.

Andy and I licked our ice-cream, cooling our insides. As the amount grew smaller and smaller, our attention turned to the cone. When we finally reached the last morsels of our sweet dessert, we scooped up a few dabs on our fingers. Andy then treated Barnaby and Cinder; I treated the others. Yum!

You’d think this would make them all satisfied. Instead our four pets crowded even closer, coaxing for more ice-cream. Andy said, “All gone!” So did I. After our saying firmly a couple of times, Barnaby laid back down with Andy, while Cinder retreated to her tower. Rainy began sniffing the carpet, no doubt hoping she’d find dropped food.

That left Bootsie, who decided that if I wasn’t going to give her ice-cream, maybe Andy would. She stepped over me and shoved her face towards Andy. When he ignored her, Bootsie swat Barnaby. And chaos broke out.

Barnaby yelped. Andy and I yelled. Rainy had sense to retreat from the commotion. So did Bootsie, who ran under the table to hide. Except Cinder took off after her. When she got her in a corner, Cinder hissed and batted at Bootsie.

Was Cinder jealous that Bootsie had coaxed for more food? Was she acting like a protective big sister to Barnaby? We never did figure out. But we did realize that a better plan was needed for meal times. How we got the squabbles to end will be the subject of a future post. 😉

I’m looking forward to how you got the squabbles to end.

That makes eating ice cream rather stressful doesn’t it. Too cute though.

Have a woof woof and purrfect Awww Monday. ☺

Meals have since become calmer, although Rainy still tends to think she deserves to be in the middle of the action. 🙂

awesome post- have a great day!

Thank you! Have a great week. 🙂

Books can take connect us with strangers, take us to unique places, and introduce us to new ideas. They can also offer hope in a chaotic world. And so I must share what I read!
