Saturday Snapshot invites bloggers to share photos. This week, I’m posting a tribute to Gizmo. We started fostering him in December, but hope that this Sunday he will have found a more permanent home.
Gizmo’s owner had to give him up, because she moved into a retirement home. Otherwise, she would have kept him. The next home where Gizmo stayed didn’t work out, because the top dog there didn’t care for Gizmo. The two scrapped frequently and Gizmo took the brunt of injuries. It was feared he would get permanently hurt. And so, Gizmo came into our lives.
He’s eleven, but going on four. Despite bad eyesight and hearing, he adores his walks and his toys. Watching him get excited is like having a birthday party. He barks and wiggles and then runs about until his leash is on or someone plays with him. He’s annoying fun! We call him our “monster”. Although he bursts with too much energy to cuddle, Gizmo does love to lay beside my husband and me. At other times, he’ll curl up next to our dog. Barnaby is eight, going on eleven. As much as Gizmo has tried to get Barnaby to play, Barnaby mostly ignores him. When they do grab a quick romp, it’s been a delight to watch. Gizmo also loves food. When he coaxes, my husband compares him to an excited R2-D2 (from Star Wars) because of how he wobbles.
Why didn’t we keep Gizmo? Foremost, we volunteered to foster. If we kept adopting the dogs we fostered, we wouldn’t survive long as fosters. That said, as the months stretched out, we began to consider it. Our cat, however, is flat-out against the idea. Moreover, she is slightly terrified of Gizmo. And so we hope that this Sunday Gizmo will have found a more permanent home. His new fosters like to take walks. They also have a dog. And NO cats.
My husband and I will miss Gizmo. In six months, we’ve come to love his quirky ways. We pray that this new home can be his permanent one. Every dog should have a family!
